Uniondale, NY – June 2, 2026 – Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. is proud to announce that Partner Nicole E. Osborne delivered a presentation at the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) Convention titled “Navigating the Aftermath: Liabilities for Law Firms After a Data Breach.”
The program examined the legal, ethical, and professional responsibility obligations law firms face following a data breach, addressing post-incident response, litigation strategy, privilege considerations, regulatory exposure, and potential malpractice and disciplinary risks. Attendees gained practical guidance on mitigating liability, advising firm leadership, and implementing governance and compliance strategies to protect client relationships in the wake of a cybersecurity incident.
The annual WBASNY Convention brings together attorneys and judges from across New York State for continuing legal education programming, networking, and discussions focused on advancing women in the legal profession.
Ms. Osborne is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Health Law Departments. Nicole also serves as Co-Chair of the firm’s Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Practice Group and is a member of the Employment, White Collar Crime and Investigations, and Crisis Management Practice Groups.
Ms. Osborne has addressed numerous cybersecurity matters, navigating the complex intersection of law and technology. She assists companies in managing and responding to data privacy and security incidents of all sizes, including business email compromise, ransomware, and other network intrusions. During breach management, Ms. Osborne works closely with IT teams and third parties such as forensic investigators, public relations consultants, and cybersecurity insurance companies. Ms. Osborne manages all parts of an incident, from identification and investigation through reporting in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and defends enforcement proceedings, government investigations, and related civil actions. In addition, Ms. Osborne advises businesses on cyber-preparedness, conducts risk and threat assessments, incident response planning, and privacy impact assessments, and assists with compliance across evolving data privacy laws.
Ms. Osborne also handles employer-employee matters, including wage and hour compliance, discrimination prevention, employee handbooks and trainings, administrative proceedings, and disability and leave issues. She has defended claims involving sexual harassment, discrimination, restrictive covenants, confidentiality violations, and trade secret theft.
As a commercial litigator, Ms. Osborne represents individuals and companies in federal and state courts in complex disputes, including employer/employee matters, trade secret misappropriation, business torts, breach of contract, shareholder disputes, professional liability, and Article 78 proceedings.
Ms. Osborne was named in Long Island Business News in its Ones to Watch in 2019, New York Metropolitan Area Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Ms. Osborne was also included in the 2025 and 2026 edition of the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch™ in America.
Ms. Osborne is an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University’s Maurice A. Deane School of Law, where she teaches courses on the Fundamentals of the Law of Cybersecurity.
