RMF Attorneys David Schoenhaar and John Chillemi Honored by Long Island Business News as a “Leadership in Law” Award Winner

Uniondale, NY – November 1, 2021 – Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. is pleased to announce that Partner, David R. Schoenhaar and Associate, John D. Chillemi, have been selected by Long Island Business News (LIBN) as honorees of the 2021 Leadership in Law Awards. The award honors attorneys for their professional achievement and whose legal or business contributions lead to the success of their clients; service to the legal profession and improvement of the legal system through practice innovations, legal scholarship, advancing diversity within the profession, and maintaining and encouraging high standards of ethics; participation in professional associations; mentoring or serving as a role model; volunteer or pro bono public service; and civic or community involvement. This year’s honorees will be featured in a special publication in the November 19 edition of Long Island Business News.

Mr. Schoenhaar’s areas of concentration consist of estate planning, probate, and trust and estate administration. He has experience in preparing and administering wills and trusts for high net-worth individuals that integrate asset protection, lifetime gifting strategies and business succession planning. Skilled in all areas of trusts and estates law, Mr. Schoenhaar has also advocated successfully for clients in contested accounting matters, discovery proceedings, kinship hearings and other complex disputes between beneficiaries and fiduciaries. Mr. Schoenhaar is a member of the Trusts and Estates Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association. He actively lectures on estate planning topics for continuing legal education programs and to Bar Associations within New York. Mr. Schoenhaar is a contributor to the LexisNexis Estate and Elder Law Blog, a frequent author of estate planning publications and a co-author with the Hon. C. Raymond Radigan of trusts and estates publications for the New York Law Journal. He is also a board member of the Tourette Association of America the premier national non-profit organization that offers resources and referrals to help people and their families, as well as raise awareness and a better understanding of Tourette syndrome.

Mr. Chillemi is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Department, Land Use and Environment Practice Group and IDA & Municipal Development Incentives Practice Group. His practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions, including the acquisition, disposition, leasing and financing of commercial properties throughout the United States. Specifically, Mr. Chillemi has experience handling “zero net bond leasing” transactions and 1031 Tax-Deferred Exchange transactions. He also represents borrowers and lenders with respect to construction and permanent financing. In addition to his real estate work, Mr. Chillemi has experience with land use and zoning transactions, including the representation of land developers of various projects ranging from change of zone petitions, variances, municipal hearings and IDA financing. Mr. Chillemi is board member of Vision Long Island, whose mission is to promote more livable, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible growth on Long Island through Smart Growth. Additionally, he is a proud member of the Long Island Association’s Young Professionals Committee, which is a diverse group of professionals designated by the members of the LIA Board of Directors as the next generation of business leaders.
