Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. Forms Cannabis Law Practice Group

Uniondale, NY – April 19, 2021 – Ruskin Moscou Faltischek has formed a Cannabis Practice Group to help regional businesses and individuals understand and navigate the requirements of the newly-adopted New York State law legalizing the sale of cannabis, according to Adam Silvers, the firm’s managing partner.

“Real estate owners, distributors of commercial products, growers and other groups will be eligible to apply for the many types of licenses that will be awarded by the Office of Cannabis Management, and it is important that they be guided through a very complex process. There will be a strong need for law firms with experience in real estate, corporate, health care, employment and criminal law matters. Applicants must get accurate answers in order to be in compliance with this new statute,” Silvers said.

The new Cannabis Practice Group will be headed by Arthur “Jerry” Kremer and consists of practice group members, Jay B. Silverman, Ellen F. Kessler, Kimberly B. Malerba, Jerry Siegelman, Gavin C. Grusd and Russell H. Stern. Mr. Kremer is a 23 year veteran of the State Assembly and has been monitoring the expansion of the cannabis industry since the original state proposals were introduced in 2015.

“I believe that our team of partners can assist potential applicants to understand how the new law will work and avoid the minefield of issues that the law has created. There is strong emphasis in this law on helping underserved communities and creating new jobs and applicants must be aware of how their proposals meet the policy goals established by the state legislature,” Silvers stated.

Economic experts have predicted that the cannabis law will create as much as 7,000 new Long Island jobs and will produce significant revenue for local governments. It is expected that licenses will be issued in early 2022 if the state is able to timely process the heavy load of applications.
