Melvyn B. Ruskin To Be Honored by Diabetes Research Institute Foundation Crystal Ball to be Held April 16, 2005 at the Garden City Hotel

Uniondale, Long Island, New York, March 8, 2005 – Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. announced today that founding partner Melvyn B. Ruskin has been selected as the 2005 honoree for the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation’s Crystal Ball on April 16, 2005 at the Garden City Hotel.  The black tie fundraiser, one of the premier events of the season, will feature a casino night theme and both live and silent auctions.

“I am proud to have been selected as this year’s honoree,” said Ruskin, chair of the firm’s Health Law Department. “The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation is focused on discovering a cure for a disease that affects millions of families and individuals. I strongly support their humanitarian efforts.”

A longtime advocate of charitable and philanthropic endeavors throughout the New York metropolitan area, Ruskin currently serves as President of the Long Island division of the Jewish National Fund.  He is a board member of the Holocaust Memorial & Educational Center of Nassau County and was designated as a Man of the Year for Outreach Project, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. Ruskin is past Chair of the Business and Professionals Division of Long Island UJA-Federation, serves as a member of its Executive Cabinet and is a past recipient of its Man of the Year Award.  Ruskin also serves as a Vice-Chairman of the Nassau County Republican Committee.

Last year, NYS Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno appointed Ruskin to the Board of Directors of the Health Care Reform Act Charitable Organization. The organization is charged with the responsibility to manage a $150 million fund designed to expand access to healthcare for the uninsured, to augment or create new health programs and to provide education benefiting the public health.
