Health Law – Legal Assistant

Prominent Long Island Law firm seeks a legal secretary for our growing Health Law Department. Candidates must have a minimum of three years’ law firm experience, preferably experience with litigation matters. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, with excellent administrative, client service, written and oral communication skills.  Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation and proof reading skills are essential.

Must be able to work independently and possess knowledge of legal processes, legal procedures, legal terminology and standard formatting of a variety of legal documents. Attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to work independently is critical. Must have excellent typing/computer skills.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing specialized secretarial and administrative support to attorneys in the department including preparation of documents, timesheets, etc.;
  • Transcription of electronically dictated documents;
  • Proofreading work for accuracy;
  • Coordinating conferences, meetings and other appointments;
  • Maintaining attorneys’ calendars;
  • Screening and directing incoming calls, greeting clients and visitors;
  • Maintaining neat, accurate and up-to-date paper and electronic files;
  • Assisting with overflow of work in department;
  • Entering attorneys’ time;
  • Blacklining, scanning and e-mailing documents out of the office.

Software skills required: Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
