Uniondale, Long Island, New York, April 27, 2006 – Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. announced today that a firm partner and a former member of the New York State Assembly has been appointed by Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy to serve as a member of the Suffolk County Wireless Committee (SCWC).
The committee was formed to capitalize on the increasingly vital role information technology is playing in the Long Island economy. The initiative’s eventual goal is the construction of a cost-neutral wireless network covering all of Suffolk County. The committee’s mandate will be to discuss ways “to create a digital public network for open-air Internet access; to help citizens, businesses, schools and community organizations make effective use of this technology; explore existing technologies and evaluate evolving wireless technologies; and to solicit third-party development of research.”
“The information technology sector is rapidly becoming a central focus of the Long Island economy,” noted Kremer. “It’s essential that we advance a countywide wireless infrastructure. I am honored the County Executive has asked me to serve in this capacity.”
According to Suffolk County, the information technology sector accounts for as many as 38,000 Long Island jobs. It is estimated that the high-tech development at SUNY Farmingdale’s Broad Hollow Bioscience Park alone will be responsible for 3,500 technology-based jobs.
