23-Year Legislative Veteran Predicts State Legislature Will Approve Relief for Suffolk County
Uniondale, Long Island, New York, February 4, 2004 – Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. announced today that senior partner Arthur "Jerry" Kremer, speaking yesterday at a Suffolk County press conference on its budget issues, forecasted that the State Legislature would approve some relief for the counties from escalating Medicaid costs in the current session. Kremer, a 23 year legislative veteran and former Assembly Ways and Means Chair, said, "At one time, the counties were just one of many large groups of people begging Albany for a handout."
Kremer said the County Executives had made their strongest case yet for a limit on local costs and that state legislators will not want to be faulted for local tax increases in an election year. Kremer also noted, "For a long time, the public was confused about this issue, but they now understand that Albany plays a role in whether local real estate taxes go up or down – and they will be willing to pin the blame on state legislators if they feel they are doing nothing."
Kremer participated in the press briefing on the Suffolk County budget at the request of Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy; the press conference was held at Suffolk County Executive Building in Hauppauge. Kremer recently served as Chair of County Executive Levy’s Budget Transition Committee.
