Ruskin Moscou Faltischek Announces the Promotions of Three Attorneys to Partner

Uniondale, New York, January 5, 2016 – Ruskin Moscou Faltischek P.C. announces the promotions of three of its attorneys.  Effective January 1, 2016, John Cooney, David Schoenhaar, and Thomas Telesca have been elevated to partner.

John J. Cooney is chair of the Firm’s Cybersecurity and Data Privacy practice group.  He is also a member of the Firm’s Health Law Department and the White Collar Crime and Investigations practice group and has successfully represented clients in a wide variety of sophisticated criminal and civil cases involving federal and state authorities.

Mr. Cooney came to Ruskin Moscou Faltischek with over fifteen years of management and leadership experience at various Fortune 200 companies.  He is a former United States Marine Corps officer and combat veteran of the Persian Gulf War. After serving his country, Mr. Cooney was trained as a software engineer at Columbia University, and his technical background proves particularly useful in the cybersecurity and data privacy arena as well as in complex fraud investigations and litigation, including Health Care Fraud, OIG Fraud, OMIG Fraud, Medicare Fraud, and RAC and Health Plan Billing Audits, which have increasingly involved information technologies and analytics. Besides his professional accomplishments, Mr. Cooney dedicates a substantial amount of time serving the Long Island community.  He is currently the Commander of the Northport American Legion Post 694, which actively supports Long Island’s youth, veterans, and those in need.  Mr. Cooney resides in Northport, New York, with his wife, Carolyn, and three sons.

David R. Schoenhaar serves as Chair of the Estate Planning and Administration Practice Group at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek. Mr. Schoenhaar’s areas of concentration consist of estate planning, probate, and trust and estate administration. He has expertise in preparing and administering wills and trusts for high net worth individuals that integrate asset protection, lifetime gifting strategies and business succession planning.  Skilled in all areas of trusts and estates law, Mr. Schoenhaar has also advocated successfully for clients in contested accounting matters, discovery proceedings, kinship hearings and other complex disputes between beneficiaries and fiduciaries.

Mr. Schoenhaar came to Ruskin Moscou Faltischek with extensive client experience that he acquired during his eight year consulting career at Accenture, one of the world’s largest global management and technology consulting firms. At Accenture, Mr. Schoenhaar managed large client teams responsible for implementing multi-million dollar cost reduction initiatives.  Mr. Schoenhaar resides in Bayport, New York, with his wife, Kristin, and three children.

Thomas Telesca is a member of Ruskin Moscou Faltischek’s Litigation Department and International Practice Group. Mr. Telesca has extensive experience in a wide range of commercial litigation, including corporate dissolutions, shareholder and partnership disputes, antitrust or unfair business practices, trademark and patent infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, enforcement of restrictive covenants, RICO actions, securities litigation, construction and real estate related matters, contract disputes, and Article 78 proceedings against municipalities and corporations.  Mr. Telesca has also prosecuted civil rights claims against municipalities and private entities.

Mr. Telesca was elected to the Board of Directors of the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation in February 2011. He currently serves as President of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. As part of its mission, the Riverhead Foundation operates the New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program.  Mr. Telesca also serves as an adjunct professor at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, New York.  He has taught courses on civil litigation, evidence, business organizations and property law.  Thomas Telesca resides in Bay Shore, New York, with his wife, Angel, and four children.
